One down (kinda) three to go!

 Curly Spokeshavin's

Tapered post with spokeshave.

This past week has found me not spending too much time in the shop but I did find a little time to finish the rough shaping of the first post for the bed. Yeah!  To celebrate I let my apprentice start cutting the tapers on the remaining three posts while I tired not to step on the tail.  I will clean up those cuts tomorrow, if heaven's willing, and the creek don't rise.

The shaping process has been fairly easy with my Stanley No. 151 there in the picture.  I bought this spoke shave new just to see what a new one was like, it should be illegal so sell such a poorly ground blade!  I should have taken a picture but alas I set about sharpening and honing it before I thought of documenting the poor thing.  Now my only objection in that it has a very wide mouth and it is very prone to tear out the tricky patches on grain in these posts.  I will need to find a different shave for the fine shaping, something a bit more adept at handling this tricky wood.  But for now I am happy to be hogging with the Stanley.

Have fun and remember, thumbs weren't meant to be mitered.
