Four Post Bed - The Plan

A Candidate Design

A Candidate Design

My sweet little girl wants a bed with a canopy - and that is about her only criterion.  So I thought that is would be fun to build a nice old style pencil post bead with a teaster.  Fortunately, there are many versions of this bed in that I could find in books and online.  So I would not be winging this one.  And right after I started in on this project Fine Woodworking had a great article about making the very bed I had in mind.  The only difference is that they did it in a very normie way, I am more of a neanderthal gallootish leaning myself.

Here is a shot of the Fine Woodworking model I am working towards.  I only say that it is a model so that when I screw something up I can modify things and claim I always meant to do it that way. ;-)

I am building the bed out of hard maple and at this point mostly have the posts dimensioned.   After that I will move on to getting the taper cut in the top of the posts.  This constituts the majority of the stock removal on this project at which point I can move on to the finer shaping bits of the project.

Have fun and remember, thumbs weren't meant to be mitered.
